(Des Moines)– The State of Iowa Auditor’s Office is sounding the alarm about a new phone scam.
State Auditor Rob Sand says the caller identifies themselves as being a representative of his office. The recipient of the call is asked about their mortgage. In one instance, Sand says the caller stated that they knew the person’s name, address and height.
He says the Iowa Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division has been notified of the matter. In the meantime, officials say you should not provide any information if you receive such a call. Sand says the State Auditor’s Office doesn’t make phone calls requesting that kind of information.
