(Indianapolis, IN)– A new report says future plans to convert up to 60-percent of the region’s power to renewable energy could make maintaining constant power supply more difficult. MISO, the Midcontinent System Operator, manages electric distribution to Iowa and 14 other states. They say wind and Solar power are dependent on weather conditions, and less reliable than traditional sources like coal, gas, nuclear, and hydroelectric dams. The MISO region is expected to reach 30-percent renewable energy within the next five years. Iowa energy companies MidAmerican and Alliant both plan to expand their renewable energy sources.
