Changes Could Be In Store For Estherville Tree Dump

November 08, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Estherville)– The city of Estherville is looking into alternatives for the city’s tree dump. City Administrator Penny Clayton told the City Council Monday there have been several fires at the dump this fall, including one this past Sunday…

“There appears to be a smoldering section of that pile and then the wind picks up and the leaves get blown into that. We are looking at some potential alternatives. We haven’t really finalized what that looks like yet.”

City officials say they’ve noticed a big increase in the volume of leaves being hauled to the site this fall. They say many residents are doing that to avoid a new requirement that leaves be put in special brown paper bags in order to be picked up.

Clayton says the goal is to get any changes put into place before spring.
