Program Available To Assist Struggling Homeowners

November 01, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– Dickinson County Treasurer Kris Rowley today (Tues.) informed the Board of Supervisors of a program to help those suffering financially due to the covid pandemic. Rowley says the Iowa Homeowner’s Assistance Fund is being offered through the Iowa Housing Authority. She says it provides one time assistance with those having issues making payments on mortgages and property taxes…

“This money is going to run out as covid American Rescue Fund money. So in the rules it says one time only. It isn’t something they can keep reaching into. We see the duress in the tax notices, we know that. We just mailed them out yesterday. We know our population of people that need help and we can also reach out to them that way to if we feel like that they might fall in this. They do have to qualify and it has to be covid financially related, so it isn’t for everyone, but it is one more tool for people that have fallen behind due to covid hardship.”

Rowley says some 50 million dollars in assistance is available through the program statewide in Iowa.
