Field Fire Destroys Estimated $24,000 In Standing Corn

October 24, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(May City)– A massive field fire last week destroyed about $24,000 of corn near May City.

Firefighters were called around 3:20 pm Wednesday to a field about a mile north of May City and found the fire rapidly spreading. Some nearby farmers assisted with disks. The fire destroyed an estimated 15 to 20 acres of standing corn. Officials say a hot bearing from some farm equipment is apparently what started the fire.

Firefighters were on the scene about an hour and-a-half. No injuries were reported.
