(Estherville)-The Fright Hike is back at Ft. Defiance State Park Saturday, October 29. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:

The Estherville Area Chamber of Commerce hosts the annual Fright Hike on Saturday night, October 29.
Executive Director Lexie Ruter says, the spooky hike takes place at Ft. Defiance State Park. “The Fright Hike is a half mile hike through Ft. Defiance State Park. It is a ‘spooktacular’ haunted hike in the woods, which, really, can it get any scarier than in the woods at night near Halloween? We send you on a half mile path outside. We have different sets and different people there to scare you. You really never know what’s around any corner, and it’s just a lot of fun. It’s a unique experience. We have so many cool haunted houses here in Northwest Iowa, but ours is a haunted woods, it’s just a little bit different.”
She adds that the event starts at 6 o’clock Saturday night. “We do a special lights on hour from 6 to 7 pm. We kind of use that as a less scary time, so those little one who really want to go, we do a little less scary from 6 to 7 so, we like to say that from 6 to 7 we will turn the chainsaw on but we won’t chase you with it. Then from 7 to 9:30 is our full scare, so the rest of the evening is a regular full-blown haunted house scare experience. It’s $8 per person.”
Ft. Defiance State Park is located off Highway 9 a couple miles west of Estherville.
