Car Vs Semi Crash On West Edge Of Sheldon Kills One Person & Injures Three Others

October 18, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Sheldon)– One person was killed and three others injured when a car collided with semi Monday on Highway 18 at Marsh Avenue on the west edge of Sheldon.

The Iowa State Patrol says a 17-year-old male juvenile from Worthington was driving a 2006 Ford Focus westbound. Troopers say the vehicle crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 2016 Peterbilt semi driven by 54-year-old Kris Marra of Sioux Center. The semi then jack knifed, blocking both lanes of traffic.

All four occupants in the car were entrapped. A passenger in the car, 44-year-old Samuel Garcia Ruiz of Worthington, was pronounced dead. Three other 17-year-olds in the car, all from Worthington, were taken by ambulance to the Sheldon hospital.

The crash took place around 6:20 am.
