(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors today (Tuesday) approved snow removal agreements with several cities that have already signed off on them. The agreements are with cities that share jurisdiction over county roads going through them. Assistant County Engineer Cole Budach said the new agreements are different from those in the past that were much more broad in nature…
“We used to have maintenance agreements in place where we agreed to help maintain the shared roadways all year round. We were seeing some problems with that where, you know, edge rutting wasn’t being taken care of, it was the city’s responsibility to go do it, or paint striping, and then it ultimately fell back on the county. Talking with maintenance superintendents and Dan, I think we found that the most beneficial part of the old maintenance agreements were snow removal agreements, so we’ve moved purely to a snow removal or winter maintenance agreement with these cities.”
As part of the agreements, the entity that does most of the snow removal will reimburse the other at a rate of $1,500 per lane mile.
