(Sioux Falls, S.D.)– The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, South Dakota has issued a “fire weather watch” for several northwest Iowa counties. It will be in effect from Wednesday (10/12) afternoon through Wednesday evening.
Forecasters say a combination of wind, extremely dry conditions and very low humidity will create a very high fire danger. They say any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly and that outdoor burning is not recommended. Several counties in the region are currently under burn bans.
The fire weather watch will be in effect for Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Ida, Lyon, O’Brien, Plymouth, Sioux and Woodbury counties. The National Weather Service says there’s a possibility the watch could be upgraded to a red flag warning should conditions get even more threatening.
