(Spencer)-October is National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and The American Humane Society promote Adopt a Shelter Dog Month every October.
Locally, Animal Advocate Jen Johnson-Ross with People for Pets says, area shelters are full of pets in need of adoption. “Right now, every single shelter is filled with great animals. It takes a special person to go to the shelter and go to petfinder.com and to look at those faces and to read those bios, and to understand, it might take that dog 2-3 weeks to adjust to you and your home, but adoption is the best option and so many great pets right now in all 3 area shelters. So, I encourage people to go to petfinder.com. October is National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, and you’re going to find that perfect pumpkin in the form of a canine friend this month at a local shelter.”
She notes that the adoption process is fairly easy. “If you want to adopt, we do have you fill out an application, and don’t let that dissuade you. It just kind of gives us an idea of what you’re looking for in a pet, and if that pet is a good match for you. Our main motivation is to make sure that next trip out of the shelter is that pet’s last one.”
