October 07, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– A Spencer man faces charges following a pursuit early this (Fri.) morning.

Spencer police say an officer attempted to pull over a vehicle around 2:00 am in the 100 block of East 24th Street in Spencer for careless driving. Authorities say the driver, 21-year-old Dakota Thomas of Spencer, initially stopped for the officer but took off, driving through several business properties in the area of North Highway Boulevard on the north side of Spencer. The pursuit ended a short time later when Thomas abruptly stopped, resulting in a collision with the pursuing patrol vehicle. Thomas’ vehicle became disabled in a ditch and he was taken into custody.

Thomas was charged with driving while intoxicated, eluding, failure to obey a stop sign, failure to provide proof of financial liability, failure to use headlights when required and careless driving. He was booked into the Clay county jail.

Police say no injuries were reported as a result of the collision.
