Milford City Council Considers Revisions To Agreement With Humane Society Of NW Iowa

October 26, 2020

(Milford)– The Milford City Council is considering some revisions to its contract with the Humane Society of Northwest Iowa. The council Monday evening met with the Society’s New Executive Director, Travis Hayenga. City councilman Andy Yungbluth said the main item he wants clarified is the process that’s involved in the event the Humane Society rejects a stray animal a police officer has dropped off at the facility after deeming it’s vicious…Yungbluth & Vicious Animals

“I mean obviously if they’re deeming an animal vicious we don’t want one of our police officers getting bit or attacked by a vicious animal. This is something that we need to get a hold of a vet and say can we put you on retainer if the Humane Society deems an animal vicious, that that vet will travel to the Humane Society instead of us having to handle that animal and take it to a vet clinic.”

Hayenga indicated they would be willing to work with the city on clarifying the agreement. New language will be drafted for consideration by the council at a future meeting.

In other business, the Milford City Council referred a request to vacate an alley behind True Value Hardware to the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission for a recommendation.

The council also reviewed the city’s audit for the past fiscal year ending June 30, 2020 which turned up no major discrepancies or concerns.
