(Spirit Lake)– There’s a new face at the Dickinson County Nature Center. Daria Mather has joined the staff as the new Community Relations Coordinator. She tells KUOO news it’s her first job out of college…
“In May I graduated from Simpson College down in Indianola and then when I was in school still I interned with the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation and continued that through the summer so that I could keep getting experience and I really liked writing there so I continued with them. And then my supervisor, Katy Hagen, forwarded me this job post for the job here, so I was really excited about it because it was a little bit of everything that I wanted. It has the nature, it has the volunteers, it has the writing. It had kind of everything. So I applied and I guess I got kind of lucky because I’m right out of school and I got pretty much the job I wanted, so.”
Mather says she had heard of Okoboji prior to actually moving here, but otherwise wasn’t familiar with the Iowa Great Lakes…
“I mean I had heard of Okoboji and the lakes and everything, but I hadn’t actually been up here because I’m from Illinois and I haven’t been back to Iowa since college previous to that, so I haven’t actually been up here but I’m very excited to be here now. I’m very excited to learn everything I can about the lakes and experience everything I can.”
Mather adds she looks forward to meeting all of the visitors at the Dickinson County Nature Center. The facility is currently open Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm.
