November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)..The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a stranded fisherman Saturday at about 7:45 pm. A local man had walked out on Big Spirit Lake from the Marble Beach campground area to fish. He became disoriented in the dense fog and was unable to find his way off the lake. Deputies tried using their vehicle sirens to give the man a signal, but he was unable to follow the siren.
The man’s location was known by the Dickinson County Communications Center from the Cellular 911 locator. This continued for about an hour with the man going round in circles.
Another fisherman, Ceasar Larson of Amboy, Minnesota, was leaving the lake at this time. He was driving a SnoBear Tracked Vehicle. Larson and his daughters, Rachael (10) and Kate (8) took a Sheriff’s Deputy onto the ice and drove to the man’s location. He was taken back to Marble Beach with no injusires.
The Dicksinson Counth Seriff’s Office was assisted by the Spirit Lake Police, Iowa DNR, and Ceasar Larson and his daughters, Rachael and Kate.
