(Spencer)– A two-vehicle collision last Friday in Clay county sent three people to the hospital with minor injuries.
The Sheriff’s Office says 29-year-old Jeremy Fisher of rural Spencer was driving a 2006 Ford Taurus northbound on 240th Avenue when he was distracted by his cell phone going off. Deputies say Fisher then went through a stop sign at the intersection with 300th Street, colliding with the rear passenger’s side of a 1994 Chevrolet truck driven by 69-year-old Jerry Markley of rural Spencer. Fisher’s vehicle then went into the north ditch and rolled once, coming to rest on its top.
Both Markley and Fisher and a passenger in Markley’s vehicle, Ken Blum, were taken by private vehicle to Spencer Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries.
Both vehicles were totaled.
Fisher was cited for failure to stop at a stop sign and failure to maintain control.
The collision took place shortly before Noon.
