(Estherville)– A suspect wanted in connection with some crimes in 2009 in Estherville was recently arrested in Louisiana and has been returned to Iowa.
The Estherville Police Department says 21-year-old Manuel Cantu was wanted on warrants charging him with 10 counts of burglary of a motor vehicle, one count of identity theft and one count of second degree arson.
Police say the charges stem from Cantu’s alleged involvement in several vehicle burglaries and a fire that was intentionally set in a downtown Estherville alley during the months of March, April and May of 2009.
Cantu fled Estherville and was recently arrested in New Orleans. He was extradited to Iowa and is currently being held in the Emmet county jail on bond of 84,500-dollars.
Another suspect in the case, 19-year-old Michael Mireles of Estherville, was arrested in May of last year on four counts of burglary to a motor vehicle and one count of identity theft. He was later released pending trial.
