(Spirit Lake)– A Spirit Lake High School Social Studies, Government and Sociology teacher has been named this year’s recipient of the “Excellence In Education Award” sponsored in part by the Iowa State Education Association.
Roland Schmidt learned Thursday he’s this year’s winner of the award. Schmidt was nominated by six students and some faculty members.
Schmidt will travel to Des Moines where he’ll be honored at a banquet. He will also receive a thousand dollars with another thousand dollars going to the Spirit Lake High School.
