November 23, 2014

(Spencer)– Good news for an entity that assists those looking to start up small businesses in the region.

The Iowa Small Business Development Center has received re-accreditation through the Association of Small Business Development Centers.

Kelly McCarty is the Director of the Northwest Iowa Small Business Development Center, one of 15 regional centers that network with the Iowa Small Business Development Center. McCarty tells KUOO news the re-accreditation will allow them to continue their operations another four years.

The Northwest Iowa Small Business Development Center serves a 10-county area of northwest Iowa. McCarty says their services are free, confidential and customized. He says the provided one-on-one counseling with people who want to start a business, expand a business, buy or sell a business, and help with marketing issues. McCarty says they can also customize their services to meet unique needs of individual businesses.

McCarty says they work with all levels of businesses…from start-ups to those with 500 or more employees…along with workshops to provide ongoing assistance to business owners.

The Small Business Development Center is funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration. The local office is hosted by Iowa Lakes Community College in the North Gate building in Spencer.

The office can be reached at 262-4213.
