Okoboji School Board Reviews Scaled-Down Building Plans

November 23, 2014

(Milford)– Meeting with architects and the elementary building committee, the Okoboji School Board Thursday evening reviewed scaled down conceptual drawings for additions to the elementary and high schools. The elementary project would consist of three new kindergarten rooms along with new administrative and lobby areas. The new plans have an estimated cost of 1.75 million. The board had earlier set 1.5 million as an amount not-to-exceed. But board president Kurt Eckard says that was before they postponed the highschool gym project. Since then, board members have indicated they might be willing to spend a little more on the elementary project. The board directed the architects to fine-tune the plans and include provisions for a transitional kindergarten program that may be offered in the future.

The high school project includes the construction of new locker rooms and a weight-training facility at an estimated cost of 672-thousand dollars. Those plans will also be fine tuned.

Eckard says it will probably be late spring or early summer before a bidletting could be held.
