(Spencer)– The Spencer Highway 71 bypass will likely be a victim of budget cuts by the Iowa Department of Transportation. The cuts are being forced by a projected loss of revenue.
Iowa Department of Transportation commissioners voted Tuesday to tentatively delay or cancel 32 projects totaling 200 million dollars. The Spencer bypass is among them…along with the Highway 60 bypass of Sheldon. The projects had originally been included in the D-O-T’s five-year program. Commissioners say those projects…and others…will probably be dropped from the program entirely.
The commission will finalize the two-point-three billion dollar five year highway program next month.
