(West Okoboji)– Some tense moments Saturday evening in West Okoboji. The Dickinson County Communications Center received a report around 7:21 p.m. from a residence in West Okoboji regarding a possible missing swimmer. The reporting party told authorities they had seen a man swimming near some docks in the Pocahontas Point area…but lost track of him and didn’t see anything more of him. As a precaution, the Okoboji Underwater Search and Rescue Team, Milford Rescue Unit and Dickinson County Ambulance were called to the scene along with the Iowa D-N-R Lakes Patrol. As a search was being organized, officers with the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, Milford, Arnolds Park and Okoboji Police Departments went door-to-door but did not receive any reports of a missing person. In the process of doing that, an officer came upon a subject matching the description of the swimmer that was thought to be missing. Witnesses identified the man as the person they had seen in the water and the search was discontinued slightly more than an hour after it started.
