Local Snowmobile Club Raising Money For Trail Groomer

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A fundraising effort by a local snowmobile club to purchase a grooming machine has received a boost.

The Dickinson County SnowHawks have received an 860-dollar donation from Bombardier Recreational Products in partnership with Ski-Doo and a local dealer–Jaycox Implement in Lake Park.

Randy Magg, a spokesman for the SnowHawks, says the money will be put toward a local match for funding they’ve applied for through a DNR program and the state snowmobile association.

He says the goal is to raise about 25-thousand dollars locally. Magg says they’re hoping to get that raised as soon as possible. He says they have until July 1st to apply for the state funding. About 12-thousand dollars has been raised so far.

Magg says having access to a groomer at all times would increase the number of people that come to the area to snowmobile each winter. He says that’s bound to have an impact on the local economy.

In recent years Magg says they’ve had to rely on a leased groomer and assistance from other counties. For expample, he says they had to borrow three different groomers this past winter to get ready for Winter Games.
