Bids Awarded For First Phase Of Spirit Lake Elementary Expansion

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake School Board has paved the way for construction to start on an expansion at the elementary school consisting of four kindergarten classrooms and a lobby.

The board last night awarded 904-thousand dollars in bids for the project. They came in 205-thousand dollars below the original estimate. Because of that, the board decided to proceed with an alternate to include additional restrooms in the lobby area. The bid for that project was 28,577-dollars…some 12-thousand dollars below the estimate.

The board also last night scheduled a public hearing to talk about the future of Mahannah Auditorium. It will be held at 7:00 p.m. September 17th in the board room.

The board also decided to conduct a community survey on the voted Physical Plant and Equipment Levy to see just how many people would be willing to vote in favor and what types of building projects it should fund. No word as to exactly how the survey will be distributed.
