(Wahpeton)– A proposal to replace some culverts at the Lower Gar outlet with a bridge is getting financial support from one lakes area city council.
The Wahpeton City Council earlier this week approved a request from Dickinson county engineer Dan Eckert to contribute 12,121-dollars toward the proposed project.
The cities, county and state are each being requested to pick up a third of the cost.
While the proposed project has support from the city of Wahpeton, it’s drawing opposition from others…such as Spirit Lake and Milford. They feel the county should bare the brunt of the cost…saying it’s more of a county project than one for the cities.
A study by the U-S Army Corps of Engineers has found water levels in West Lake Okoboji don’t recede as quickly as the other lakes during times of high water. They say replacing the outlet tubes with a bridge would help alleviate the situation.
