Leak Results In Evacuation of Some Spencer Residences & Businesses

November 23, 2014

(Spencer)– An L-P gas leak resulted in the evacuation of some homes and businesses in Spencer Tuesday.

Fire Chief Doug Duncan tells KUOO news his department was called to Lakes Propane Company at fourth avenue west and west eighth street around 11:30 a.m.

Duncan says a fitting on the back of a delivery truck broke…causing about 80 gallons of LP gas to leak from the two-thousand gallon truck. Duncan says the fire department, Spencer police and Clay county Sheriff’s Office escorted the truck to an out-of-town location where the company fills empty tanks. What gas was left in the truck was downloaded to another tank without incident. Occupants of the homes and businesses that were evacuated were allowed to return after about 45 minutes.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
