(Spirit Lake)– Charges have been filed against a Milford juvenile in connection with a high speed chase last night.
It happened shortly before 10:00 p.m. as an Okoboji police officer was attempting to stop a northbound vehicle on 220th Avenue. Authorities say the vehicle was going in excess of 100 miles-per-hour when the juvenile driver lost control. The vehicle went into a slough just west of the KUOO studios. The juvenile then fled…running east from the crash site. A Dickinson County Sheriff’s deputy was able to locate the suspect with an infrared camera. Authorities say a struggle then took place as a Spirit Lake officer tried to arrest the juvenile. A private citizen observed the struggle and assisted the officer.
The name of the juvenile isn’t being released. The teen has been charged with attempting to elude police officers, second offense operating while intoxicated and possession of alcohol. Charges of interference with official acts and attempting to disarm a peace officer…a class “D” felony…have also been filed against the juvenile.
The teen was transferred to the Youth Emergency Services Center in Cherokee.
The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, Okoboji, Spirit Lake and Arnolds Park Police Departments were all involved in the investigation.
