Iowa Great Lakes Tourist Season Draws Mixed Reactions

November 23, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– So how did the Iowa Great Lakes fare in the just-ended summer tourist trade? It’s still early as Labor Day was just a week ago…but chamber officials are already doing some number crunching. Tom Kuhlman, the chamber’s Executive Director, tells KUOO news the number of visitors appears to be up from last year…but the verdict is out on whether or not they spent more money this year. Kuhlman says some business owners he’s visited with reported an increase in business volume…while others say it was soft.

So far, Kuhlman says he doesn’t see the softening economy carrying over locally. But he cautions that could change now as we enter the “off” season.
