Blood Donors Put On Alert Following Today’s Terrorist Attacks

November 23, 2014

(Spencer)– The Iowa Great Lakes Area chapter of the American Red Cross is putting blood donors on standby.

Ann Zahrt, Director of the local American Red Cross, tells KUOO news that as of early this afternoon she had not yet received a call for an emergency blood drive. With a very high demand for blood from New York, Zahrt says there’s a very real possibility of that happening.

When it comes to trying to contact friends and loved ones in the affected areas, Zahrt says the Red Cross has a 48 hour moratorium in which they ask families or friends to contact loved ones on their own. After that, if they haven’t heard anything, they can then contact the local Red Cross at (712) 262-1574.
