(Spirit Lake)– Gas prices early today in the Iowa Great Lakes were still holding steady at about a dollar-69 a-gallon. That may not last much longer, though.
David Downing, Energy Analyst with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, says already late yesterday afternoon there were reports of gas going for three dollars-a-gallon in some states neighboring Iowa.
Considering the present circumstances, Downing expects prices to go up atleast 12 cents a gallon. But he says the sudden huge spike in demand and any hoarding by retailers will only exasperate the situation…pushing prices up even higher.
Lines at many lakes area service stations and convenience stores extended for blocks last evening.
