(Storm Lake)– Some policy changes are likely for the Iowa Board of Parole.
That’s after a man who was released early without the board’s approval allegedly stabbed his wife to death last Sunday in Storm Lake.
33-year-old George Pittman was charged with first degree murder.
Pittman had been released from prison last week. He had been serving a two-year sentence for domestic terrorism after threatening to kill people in the Buena Vista county courthouse.
The director of the Iowa Parole Board, Clarence Key, says a new policy has been implemented that prohibits prisoners convicted of violent crimes from being released from prison early.
In addition to that, the board’s chairwoman, Elizabeth Robinson-Ford, has ordered that all cases of early release be reviewed by the board, which has the final decision.
