Board Grants Okay To Move Back Porch Building

November 23, 2014

(Okoboji)– The only thing that stands in the way of an environmental learning center becoming a reality in the Iowa Great Lakes is money.

The Dickinson county board of supervisors Tuesday granted permission to the county’s conservation foundation and the conservation board to relocate the former Back Porch building onto a tract of land at Kenue Park near the county farm.

Conservation Foundation Secretary Steve Anderson says the action means fundraising for the move can get underway immediately. They need some 30-thousand to 35-thousand dollars to move the building. Additional money is needed to equip and furnish it.

The city of Wahpeton is giving the groups until December 1st to get it moved. Anderson says they hope to have it done well before then.
