(Milford)– What started as a combine fire yesterday in a field west of Milford quickly spread and destroyed about a quarter section of corn and soybeans.
The blaze was fanned by the extremely dry conditions, 90 degree temperatures and high wind.
Several farmsteads were threatened, but the Milford and Lake Park fire departments, with assistance from area farmers with discs, managed to contain the blaze to open fields.
Milford Fire Chief Don Eckard says it’s not known how the combine started on fire. It sustained about 15-thousand dollars damage.
No injuries were reported.
The Milford and Lake Park fire departments were at the scene for about an hour and-a-half.
