(Milford)– An Everly man was injured in a two-vehicle accident last (Fri.) night at the intersection of two Dickinson county roads nine miles west of Milford.
The sheriff’s Office says 47-year-old Robert Schlager of Spencer was southbound on county road M-27 while 40-year-old Charles Gillette of Lake Park was westbound on county road A-34. Authorities say Gillette ran a stop sign. Schlager tried to avoid a collision, but was unsuccessful. The vehicle driven by Schlager went into the southwest ditch; the one driven by Gillette went into the ditch and rolled…coming to rest on its top pointing to the east…breaking off a stopsign.
Both drivers and a passenger in the vehicle driven by Schlager, 46-year-old Verdon Schmidt of Everly, was taken by ambulance to Dickinson County Memorial Hospital. No other injuries were reported.
A 1997 Ford pickup driven by Schlager and owned by Saga Communications, Incorporated of Spencer sustained an estimated 15-thousand dollars in damage. Five thousand dollars in damage was estimated to a 1988 Ford pickup driven by Gillette.
Gillette was charged with a stop sign violation and driving while intoxicated.
The mishap took place shortly before 10:30 p.m.
It was investigated by the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Iowa State Patrol, Milford Rescue and Dickinson County Ambulance.
