(Algona)– Authorities in north central Iowa and south central Minnesota had a mystery on their hands for awhile this (Mon.) morning.
What was described as silver balloons were seen flying over portions of Palo Alto, Kossuth, Pocahontas and Humboldt counties.
The three manned balloons touched down a couple of hours later in Faribault county…near the south-central Minnesota town of Blue Earth.
Authorities say they originated from a hot air balloon race in New Mexico. Additional balloons were reported to be still in the air.
How they managed to make it this far north and why authorities weren’t notified is another question.
Kossuth County Sheriff Kevin Van Oterloo says it’s “bad timing” considering the events of the past few weeks with the terrorist attacks.
