Supervisors Vote 2 To 1 To Contribute To YMCA

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors voted two-to-one Tuesday to contribute to the YMCA…but not nearly to the extent requested by “Y” officials. They wanted the county to chip in 500-thousand dollars over 10 years. Instead, they got 125-thousand over 10 years.

Supervisor David Gottsche cast the lone dissenting vote…saying he doesn’t think its appropriate to use taxpayer money on such a project.

Supervisor June Goldman suggested the county donate 125-thousand over five years. But supervisor chair Wayne Northey said the only way he’d support such a motion is if the payments were spread out over 10 years. Seeing it was going to be that or probably nothing at all, Goldman eventually made the motion to go with the 125-thousand over 10 years.
