The hospital’s board of trustees earlier this week adopted a list of priorities they’d like to accomplish in the upcoming year. Hospital CEO Rich Kielman says they represent no major change in operations or philosophy.

Strategic priorities for 2002 include:

1.) Provide excellence in healthcare by maintaining Joint Commission accreditation, offering selected services very well, utilizing modern technology and creating positive patient experiences.
2.) Provide competent and dedicated staff that meets the hospital’s mission of excellence in healthcare.
3.) Maintain financial strength by providing a positive net income consistent with financial forecasts and budgets.
4.) Evaluate and plan healthcare services to meet the needs of residents in the hospital’s service area with special attention to southern Dickinson county.
5.) Communicate the hospital’s strengths, service offerings and positive image to the public.
6.) Implement planned capital improvements to include further development of information technology and the design and initial construction of building renovations to the east wing and outpatient areas.
7.)Provide and coordinate services with other healthcare providers and payors consistent with the hospital’s mission and financial integrity.

In addition to the priorities, DCMH trustees have also adopted a strategic staffing plan for the upcoming year. Kielman says it’s important to have that plan to address competitive compensation while making better use of existing staff and where possible, to streamline processes.
