HLP Bond Issue Defeated

November 23, 2014

(Lake Park)– Voters in the Harris-Lake Park school district Tuesday defeated a 4.3 million dollar bond issue for a new 7th through 12th grade school and library.

While the measure was approved by a simple majority, it failed to get the 60 percent super majority required by Iowa law…receiving 53 percent.

Superintendent Gary Richardson says the board will reassess its options.

The new school was to be part of a community complex to be built in Lake Park. Organizers have applied for a Community Attractions and Tourism grant through Vision Iowa to help pay for the project. Richardson isn’t sure what impact, if any, yesterday’s bond issue defeat will have on that.
