(Sioux City)– An Estherville man has been sentenced in U-S District Court on firearms charges.
43-year-old Thomas Jeffrey Koons was sentenced to 12 months and a day in jail and three months supervised release. Koons was also ordered to pay a special assessment of 100-dollars on each count.
Koons was sentenced after pleading guilty previously to one count of possession of a firearm by a person convicted of domestic violence and one count of possession of a firearm while being a user of controlled substances.
Koons was arrested on June 26th of this year near Estherville as the result of a search warrant executed on his residence on April 18th of last year. Authorities seized three rifles, a shotgun, marijuana, a set of scales and drug paraphernalia.
