Iowa Great Lakes Included In Tour

November 23, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– The Iowa Great Lakes has been included in a seven-city bus tour for the “Rock ‘n Roll Dance Party Tour 2002”. The tour will be at the Arnolds Pavilion Monday, January 28th in conjunction with the University of Okoboji Iowa Great Lakes Winter Games.

Doris Welle of the Iowa Rock ‘n ROll Music Association tells KUOO news the tour will feature Ritchie Valens’ nephew, Ernie Valens, along with Larry Welborn, Gary and Romona Tollett–backup performers on Buddy Holly’s hits “That’ll Be The Day” and Peggy Sue Gerron, the subject of Holly’s hit “Peggy Sue”. Tommy Allsup and Carl Bunch, backup musician on the original ill-fated Winter Dance Party Tour, will be touring together for the first time in more than 40 years.

Welle says they received a call from one of the tour’s organizers, Paul King of Northampton, England, who saw the Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association’s website and learned of plans to build a rock ‘n roll museum here. She says King immediately expressed an interest in putting on a show here.

Tickets for the January 28th event are available in advance at the Arnolds Park Amusement Park office or the Iowa Great Lakes Maritime Museum Gift Shop. Tickets will also be available at the door…but will be five dollars higher.
