State Budget Cuts Concern RIDES Officials

November 23, 2014

(Spencer)– State budget cuts mean the ride for RIDES…the regional transit authority…is getting bumpy these days.

RIDE’s Executive Director Rose Lee tells KUOO their agency is getting 125-thousand dollars less in funding because of the cuts. Counties and cities in RIDEs’ nine county-service area are being asked to contribute more money to help make up the difference. Lee Tuesday requested the Dickinson County Board of Supervisors chip in an additional 15-thousand dollars…on top of their annual contribution of six thousand. The supervisors will consider the request at upcoming budget talks.

Lee says it’s crucial the funding shortfall be made up if RIDES is to continue to offer the same level of services in the future.
