O’Brien County Drug Bust Results In Two Arrests

November 23, 2014

(Sanborn)– Drug charges have been filed against two people in connection with a search warrant executed Thursday on a rural Sanborn residence.

Deputies from Clay and O’Brien counties seized over five ounces of marijuana, about three quarters of-an-ounce of methamphetamine, along with cash and drug paraphernalia.

32-year-old Steve James Van Oort was charged with possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, a drug tax stamp violation, possession with intent to deliver marijuana, keeping a premise for the use, sale or possession of a controlled substance; and possession of drug paraphernalia. All the charges are felonies except the last two.

Also charged was 25-year-old Matthew Dale Muilenberg of Vermillion, South Dakota…who was at the Van Oort residence when the search was conducted. Muilenberg was charged with second offense possession of a controlled substance…marijuana; and possession of drug paraphernalia. Both are misdemeanors.

Van Oort is being held in the O’Brien county jail on bond of 68,575-dollars. Muilenberg was released after posting bond of 6,825-dollars.

Authorities say an investigation continues and additional arrests are likely.
