Hot Plastic Fills Spirit Lake Drive-up Bank With Smoke

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A hot piece of plastic caused some problems this (Thursday) morning at a Spirit Lake drive-up bank.

The Spirit Lake Fire Department was called to the First Bank and Trust drive-up on highways nine and 71 around 1:45 a.m. after an alarm went off at the Dickinson County Communications Center. Upon arriving at the scene, Fire Chief Wally Jorgenson says there was a strong smell of smoke in the building. Firefighters determined it was coming from some plastic on a furnace that got hot and started to melt. There was no actual fire and other than some smoke, no damage was reported.

Firefighters were at the scene for about 45 minutes.
