New Wind Chill Factor

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Weather forecasters will be working with a newly revised tool in the upcoming season.

Todd Heitkamp, a warning coordination meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, tells KUOO news they’ve come up with a new and improved wind chill factor.

Heitkamp says the new wind chill more accurately reflects the true affects of wind and cold temperatures on exposed flesh than the previous one.

The new wind chill has been in the developmental stages for the past couple of years. It will actually be used the first time this winter.
