AP Defers Art Center Funding Request

November 23, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– The Arnolds Park City Council Wednesday took no action on a request for 100-thousand dollars in funds for the Lakes Art Center. One council member, Mike Koppert, said he would be reluctant to give that much.

The council deferred the request to the city’s Finance Committee.

Representatives of the Okoboji Tourism Committee warned the city not to dip into marketing money from the lodging tax to grant the funding request.

O-T-C representative Julie Fillenwarth expects a significant decline in lodging tax revenues…saying lakes area resorts are getting cancellations from people who don’t want to travel in light of financial uncertainty since September 11th. Because of that, she said, it will be even more important for cities not to dip into the marketing money.
