Buildings At Lakeside Lab To Be Rennovated

November 23, 2014

(Wahpeton)– Some major rennovations are being planned for some historic buildings at Lakeside Lab on West Lake Okoboji.

Barbra Mendenhall of Friends of Lakeside Lab tells KUOO news the Iowa Board of Regents, which operate the facility, have ranked the rennovation project as their number one capital request for the 2003 fiscal year. 390-thousand dollars is being requested. State Representative David Johnson of Ocheyedan says the chairman of the House Infrastructure Committee has told him the money will be included in the budget they plan to propose. Governor Vilsack also pledged his support for the funding during a stop in Spirit Lake Saturday.

The proposed project includes a complete rennovation of two stone lab buildings constructed in the 1930’s. Both are on the National Register of Historic Places. The current library would also be converted to a computer lab and Mahan Hall would be converted to a library.
