(Lake Park)– Not only is the abnormally warm weather hindering ice conditions, but several local lakes also have aeration systems in operation resulting in open water.
Conservation groups have started up aerators on Silver Lake near Lake Park and on Little Spirit Lake, Loon Lake, Rush Lake, Pearl Lake and Clear Lake in Jackson county. Most of the systems went into operation last week.
Signs have been posted around the systems warning people to stay away.
The aerators keep water churning even in the coldest of weather…resulting in large areas of open water. They increase the oxygen content in shallow lakes to prevent fish kills.
