(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake School Board is considering a policy that would require all school volunteers to undergo a background screening. It would also pertain to anyone who chaperones a school-sponsored event.
The school board discussed the proposed policy for the first time Monday night.
Superintendent Tim Grieves says there hasn’t been any incidents so far that resulted in the proposed policy being drafted.
The school board took no action on the matter. Some members said they’re concerned it could deter people from volunteering.
The proposed policy was referred to the district’s building improvement teams and faculty for their review and input.
