(Arnolds Park)– Organizers and law enforcement officers were very pleased with how things went with this year’s University of Okoboji Iowa Great Lakes Winter Games.
There had been concern on several fronts with the games being moved this year to the Arnolds Park Amusement Park and state pier area due to unsafe ice in Smith’s Bay. Owners of establishments near Smith’s Bay were concerned their businesses would suffer as a result.
There was concern among law enforcement over controlling alcohol in the amusement park area…but officials say no serious problems were reported.
And authorities say people heeded to warnings not to drive vehicles on the ice.
Weather for the games was ideal. Saturday’s high was 65 degrees…the warmest it’s ever been in the 22 year history of the winter games. Temperatures Sunday were slightly cooler…in the low 50’s.
The Winter Games officially conclude this (Monday) evening with the Iowa Rock ‘N Roll Music Association’s Scholarship and Winter Dance Party at the Roof Garden Pavilion in Arnolds Park.
