Early Morning Chase Lands Spirit Lake Man In Jail

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Numerous charges have been filed against a Spirit Lake man after he crashed a vehicle he was driving and led officers on a foot chase through a northwest Spirit Lake neighborhood early Monday.

The Okoboji Police Department says an officer was trying to stop a 1966 Chevrolet pickup driven by 41-year-old Scott Street of Spirit Lake. The officer noticed Street driving without headlights in the 1200 block of Keokuk Avenue. Authorities say Street bailed out of the vehicle and took off on foot in the area of 11th Street and Jackson Avenue…where the pickup he had been driving crashed. Authorities say Street was arrested a few blocks away following a brief foot pursuit.

Street sustained minor injuries to his face, hands and legs either as a result of the crash or some barbed wire fence he climbed over.

Street was charged with operating while intoxicated, third offense; driving while barred; driving while suspended; interference with official acts; possession of drug paraphernalia and numerous traffic citations. He was booked into the Dickinson County Jail pending an initial appearance before a judge.

The incident took place around 12:15 a.m.

The Okoboji Police Department was assisted by the Spirit Lake, Arnolds Park and Milford Police Departments and the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office.
