(Fort Dodge)– An accident in north central Iowa has claimed the life of a Spirit Lake woman.
The victim is identified as 57-year-old Tina Mae Gilbert. She was a passenger in a vehicle being driven by 26-year-old Mathew Gilbert of Spirit Lake. The Iowa State Patrol says he was driving a 1996 Chevrolet Suburban northbound on Highway 169 and was attempting to pass another vehicle when he lost control. The vehicle went into the west ditch…ejecting one of two passengers.
Mathew Gilbert and another passenger, 54-year-old Roger Gilbert also of Spirit Lake, were taken by ambulance to Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge.
The mishap took place shortly after 6:00 p.m. Sunday about seven miles south of Fort Dodge.
Authorities aren’t saying if it was a factor, but blowing snow was reported in the area at the time of the mishap.
